Learner Support Services are being trialled to help students address life, learning and other issues, and complete their training and transition to employment.
Learner Support Services provide individualised support and referral to address barriers to learning faced by students in vocational training. Eligible students include those who have not completed school, sole parents, women returning to work, people who are or were subject to the justice system, Aboriginal people, and people with a disability.
Learner Support Services trial
A trial of providing Learner Support Services commenced with TAFE SA in July 2011. Outcomes from the first 12 months of the trial are currently being evaluated.
The trial has now been extended to a limited number of other Skills for All Training Providers by invitation and will run until the end of 2013.
The trial is expected to assist approximately 1350 students in need of additional support, who will be selected through an eligibility and assessment process.
Future development of Learner Support Services
The full two-year trial will be externally evaluated to determine the effectiveness of Learner Support Services and the potential for a broader roll-out from mid-2013.
Information will be made available on the website after the evaluation period concludes.
