Where fitness instructors are employed

Fitness instructors work in a variety of areas such as health and fitness clubs, gymnasiums, sports centres and community recreation organisations. They may be employed on a casual basis and work at a number of different locations, including fitness centres, clinical settings, private practice and in the workplace.

Pay

Full-time fitness instructors in South Australia generally earn less than $600 per week.

Job prospects

In 2011 there were 358 people employed full-time as fitness instructors compared with 239 in 2006.

How to become one

To become a fitness instructor you usually have to complete a Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification in fitness.
