Air force technicians work with air force tradespersons to assist with the construction and maintenance of air force equipment and buildings.

Where air force technicians are employed

All new recruits undertake basic air force training at Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Base Wagga, in NSW, before they start trade or technical training at an assigned RAAF base.

How to become one

To complete a trade within the air force, you will need to complete year 10 with passes in English, maths and science. There are some job openings for people who have an existing trade or technical qualification.

To join the air force you also have to pass various aptitude tests, medical assessments and selection interviews.

To enter the air force as a carpenter, electrician, ground mechanical engineering fitter or plumber you need to hold the appropriate qualifications.
