What do livestock farm workers do?

  • patrol, inspect, report on, and help maintain the condition of livestock
  • muster and move livestock to milking and shearing sheds and between paddocks
  • wash and clean udders, and attach milking machines
  • herd sheep for shearing and keep mobs separate during shearing and spread fleeces on skirting tables for classing, press wool and brand bales
  • exercise horses by walking, riding, leading and swimming, and attend to horses at track work, barrier trials and races
  • clean stables and hatcheries, assemble, prepare and store horse gear, store bedding and perform minor repairs on fixtures, buildings and fences
