What do performing arts technicians do?

  • select, set up, operate, adjust, monitor, maintain and repair television and radio recording, transmitting, editing and mixing equipment
  • select and attach equipment to cameras, position cameras, and follow the action of scenes being photographed while adjusting controls
  • position equipment, such as spotlights, floodlights and cables, and operate lights during filming, broadcasting and stage performances
  • apply and retouch make up during shooting and performance, including special effects make up such as scars and wounds
  • design, make, tune and repair musical instruments and instrument parts
  • set up and adjust equipment such as microphones, and operate sound mixing consoles and associated equipment to regulate volume and sound quality
